Minimal Surfaces is the first volume of a three volume treatise on minimal surfaces (Grundlehren Nr. ). Each volume can be read and studied independently of the others. The central theme is boundary value problems for minimal surfaces. Finally, Leon Simon covers the PDE aspect of minimal surfaces, with a survey of known results both in the classical case of surfaces and in the higher dimensional case. The book will be very useful as a reference and research guide to graduate students and researchers in mathematics.

Minimal surfaces are among the most important objects studied in differential geometry. Of particular interest are minimal surfaces in manifolds of constant curvature, such as the Euclidean space \(\mathbb{R }^3\), the hyperbolic space \(\mathbb{H }^3\), and the sphere \(S^3\).The case of minimal surfaces in \(\mathbb{R }^3\) is a classical subject; see e.g. [] for an by: been carried out in the area of minimal surfaces.
